In the late 1850s, this clever lady and her sister Kate created the first sewing patterns as we know them and sold them from their parlor. It grew into a very profitable business that Ellen and her husband ran for nearly 30 years. She had her own design shop and fashion magazine as well.
This PD depicts Ellen wearing fashions from original plates and one of her most famous clients, Mrs. Tom Thumb!
